\"Cover<\/a>Von Thomas J. Krebs<\/strong> – Den umtriebigen Altsaxophonisten Logan Richardson werden viele Fans nicht unbedingt als Leader, sondern eher als Sideman von Ambrose Akinmusire oder z.B. Gerald Clayton kennen. Mit seiner neuen CD \u201cShift\u201d, erschienen auf dem renommierten Blue Note Label, legt Richardson nach „Cerebral Flow“ und „Ethos“ nun sein drittes Album unter eigenem Namen und gleichzeitig ein wirklich beeindruckendes Album vor. Auf den ersten Blick besticht nat\u00fcrlich die hochkar\u00e4tige Besetzung mit Pat Metheny (!) an den Gitarren, dem Drummer Nasheet Waits, Jason Moran am Piano und dem Bassisten Harish Raghavan – diese Jungs muss man erst einmal alle an einen Tisch bringen. Eine erstklassige Besetzung macht nat\u00fcrlich noch keine herausragende CD aus, bei dem Album \u201eShift\u201c stimmt aber einfach alles, kompositorisch wie musikalisch.<\/p>\n

\u201eNomen est omen\u201c wurde die Idee der \u201eShift\u201c<\/em> Studioband bereits 2009 im Kopf von Richardson geboren, es folgten Kontakte, Gespr\u00e4che, bis zur Umsetzung vergingen Jahre und das Projekt \u201everschob\u201c<\/em> sich – bis heute. Das Warten und Richardsons Hartn\u00e4ckigkeit haben sich gelohnt. So individuell die Musiker letztlich alle sind, wirklich interessant ist, was sie hier in der Band gemeinsam anstellen. Das wiederum hat Logan Richardson einfach klasse konzipiert: zum einen mit starken Kompositionen aus seiner Feder, gleichzeitig mit den Freiheiten, die sich die Musiker nehmen (k\u00f6nnen) und dem Raum, den sie f\u00fcr ihren improvisatorischen Ausdruck ben\u00f6tigen. Was sofort ins Ohr geht, sind starke, unisono gespielte Themen, Grooves und Lines, die miteinander voller Spiellaune zelebriert werden. Dabei wird dem H\u00f6rer trotz allem volle Aufmerksamkeit abverlangt. Nicht, dass die Kompositionen unbedingt sperrig sind; obwohl komplex angelegt, vereinen sie modern improvised jazz music mit intelligent inszenierten Themen. Die einzige Fremdkomposition, Bruno Mars\u2018 starkes \u201eLocked Out Of Heaven\u201c, ist erstklassig und sph\u00e4risch elegisch in Szene gesetzt. Das sollte sich Mars selbst einmal zu Gem\u00fcte f\u00fchren\u2026was man aus zugegeben anspruchsvoller Popmusik alles machen kann… Die Band in dieser Zusammensetzung live erleben zu k\u00f6nnen, w\u00e4re ein echtes Jazz-Highlight. Bis dato ist es leider \u201enur\u201c das Studioprojekt, immerhin mit der wunderbaren CD \u201eShift\u201c als Ergebnis!<\/p>\n
