Europa wird bespielt von einer Schar internationaler Jazzkoryph\u00e4en und Publikumslieblinge, die seit Mitte Juni die gro\u00dfen Festivals begl\u00fccken. Einige davon sind Saurier des Gesch\u00e4fts wie Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Charles Lloyd oder auch Tony Bennett, der auf seine alten Tage sich mit Lady Gaga als Sahneh\u00e4ubchen des soliden Swings zusammengetan hat. Andere h\u00f6rt man in den kleineren S\u00e4len, was ihre Kunst durchaus befl\u00fcgeln kann.<\/p>\n<p>Vijay Iyer zum Beispiel gab sich mit Bassist Stephan Crump und Drummer Marcus Gilmore im Teatro Morlacchi die Ehre, der B\u00fchne in Perugia, die w\u00e4hrend des Umbria Jazz Festivals f\u00fcr die modern jazzigen Konzerte zust\u00e4ndig ist. Seiner Musik tat das Ambiente eines ehrw\u00fcrdig b\u00fcrgerlichen Schauspielhauses gut, denn es un terstrich die Tendenz zum Kunstanspruch, die die kollektiven Energiesch\u00fcbe umgab, die er mit seinem langj\u00e4hrigen Trio pr\u00e4sentierte. Es war Stukturarbeit auf hohem Abstraktionsniveau, changierend zwischen Momenten des pulsierenden Flows und Gegenst\u00fccken motivisch extrem durchformter Passagen. Auf der einen Seite kann man Musik erleben, die den Intellekt und die H\u00f6rgewohnheiten herausfordert, Konzerte des norwegischen Gitarristen Jakob Bro zum Beispiel oder eben auch von Vijay Iyer. Dar\u00fcber hinaus aber steht das Festival, das seit 1973 zu der historisch bedeutsamen und zugleich quirlig studentischen Stadt geh\u00f6rt, f\u00fcr den \u00dcberschwang, f\u00fcr Konzerte unter freiem Himmel vor stimmungsvoller Kulisse, f\u00fcr Party bis in die lauen Morgenstunden.<\/p>\n<p>Die Akzeptanz unter den Besuchern ist gro\u00df und so kommt es, dass beim Umbria Jazz Musiker auf B\u00fchnen wie der Arena Santa Giuliana spielen, die das Ausma\u00df eines Sportstadions hat. Das gilt f\u00fcr internationale Ber\u00fchmtheiten wie Cassandra Wilson oder Gilberto Gil im Gespann mit Caetano Veloso ebenso wir f\u00fcr die heimischen Heroen. Paolo Fresu zum Beispiel stellte bei dieser Gelegenheit seit Projekt Brass Bang! vor, eine stil\u00fcbergreifende Mikro-Brass-Band mit dem Tubaisten Marcus Rojas, dem Posaunisten Gianluca Petrella und dem New Yorker Trompeten-Kollegen Steven Bernstein. Es war der Versuch, ein wenig Banda mir etwas New Orleans, einer Prise Avantgarde und etwas Humor zusammenzubringen, blieb aber \u00fcber mehr als eine Stunde hinweg ein Konstrukt ohne gemeinsames gestalterisches Zentrum.<\/p>\n<p>Stefano Bollani hingegen hatte seinen Spa\u00df am Spiel mit ungew\u00f6hnlichen Vorgaben. Er pr\u00e4sentiert im Quartet mit Schlagzeuger Jim Black, Bassist Paul Santner und Vibraphonist Jason Adasiewicz seine Deutung einiger St\u00fccke von Frank Zappa, die in der jazzigen Transformation noch an Substanz gewannen. Das lag nicht nur an Bollani selbst, der mit gewohntem Schelmentum und bet\u00f6render pianistischer Eleganz St\u00fccke von &#8222;Bobby Brown&#8220; bis &#8222;Blessed Relief&#8220; neu bef\u00fcllte, sondern auch an Adasiewicz, der seinem Instrument mit berserkerhafter Wucht Energiekaskaden entlockte. Nicht nur Bew\u00e4hrtes, sondern auch solche Experimente wurden beim Umbria Jazz 2015 von einem gro\u00dfen Publikum gefeiert. Denn die Mischung macht&#8217;s, Swing, Blues, Party auf den Stra\u00dfen, Kunst und Spa\u00df f\u00fcr&#8217;s K\u00f6pfchen an ausgew\u00e4hlten Orten. Vijay Iyer zum Beispiel gab sich mit Bassist Stephan Crump und Drummer Marcus Gilmore im Teatro Morlacchi die Ehre, der B\u00fchne in Perugia, die w\u00e4hrend des Umbria Jazz Festivals f\u00fcr die modern jazzigen Konzerte zust\u00e4ndig ist. Seiner Musik tat das Ambiente eines ehrw\u00fcrdig b\u00fcrgerlichen Schauspielhauses gut, denn es un terstrich die Tendenz zum Kunstanspruch, die die kollektiven Energiesch\u00fcbe umgab, die er mit seinem langj\u00e4hrigen Trio pr\u00e4sentierte. Es war Stukturarbeit auf hohem Abstraktionsniveau, changierend zwischen Momenten des pulsierenden Flows und Gegenst\u00fccken motivisch extrem durchformter Passagen. Zuweilen auf\u00a0 Suitenl\u00e4nge gedehnt, entstanden Redundanzen, die aber durch den gesamten Spannungsbogen eines konzentrierten Konzerts wieder Sinn machten.
