Elvis Costello & die WDR Big Band<\/h3>\n

Absolutes Festivalhighlight im Rahmen des \u201eGrand Concert\u201c war der mit Spannung erwartete Auftritt von Pop-\/Punk & Rocklegende Elvis Costello mit der WDR Big Band. Unter der Leitung von Michael Leonhardt wurde ein abwechslungsreiches, vielschichtiges Programm pr\u00e4sentiert, angefangen von Klassikern wie \u201eWatching The Detectives\u201c, \u201eAccidents Will Happen\u201c \u00fcber \u201eShut Him Down\u201c bis hin zu \u201eShipbuilding\u201c, jenem legend\u00e4ren Song bei dem Costello den Trompeter Chet Baker mit an Bord hatte. Stimmlich war Costello an dem Abend merklich angeschlagen, aber letztlich ging seine gesangliche Performance, bis auf kleine Momente, voll in Ordnung. Was die Arrangements seiner Songs betrifft, so hat Michael Leonhardt Unglaubliches vollbracht. Die WDR Big Band spielte sharp as a knive and light as a feather mit Verve und sichtlich Spa\u00df. Als integriertes Quartett fungierten zusammen mit der Big Band Pianist und Keyboarder Simon Oslender, Bruno M\u00fcller zus\u00e4tzlich an der Gitarre, der Bassist Thomas Stieger und Wolfgang Haffner am Schlagzeug – hat wunderbar funktioniert und man darf gespannt sein auf die geplante CD Produktion. Die beiden letzten Songs \u201ePump It Up\u201c sowie \u201eThat Day Is Done\u201c hatten es nochmal richtig in sich und stellten eindrucksvoll unter Beweis, was man mit den Songs von Elvis Costello mit einer Big Band Spannendes anstellen kann.<\/p>\n

Das Grand Closing<\/h3>\n

Noch eine Big Band\u2026das muss man erst einmal hinbekommen bei einem Festival! Rebekka Bakken pr\u00e4sentierte mit ihrer vielschichtig-kraftvollen Stimme und der HR Big Band ihr Tom Waits Programm \u201eA Little Drop Of Poison\u201c das wunderbar funktionierte. Songs wie \u201eBad As Me\u201c oder \u201eChristmas Card From A Hooker On Minneapolis\u201c gingen unter die Haut. Der Song aus dem Film Night On Earth \u201eLos Angeles Theme\u201c gl\u00e4nzte durch ein vielschichtiges Arrangement von Big Band Leiter J\u00f6rg Achim Keller und auch \u201eI Wish I was In New Orleans\u201c, \u201eDowntown\u201c oder \u201eI Have To Go\u201c als abschlie\u00dfender Song des Sets waren Steilvorlagen f\u00fcr Rebekka Bakken, die sie mit Verve und Wucht ins Publikums schleuderte.<\/p>\n

Statement f\u00fcr das Leben<\/h3>\n

Nach gut 90 Minuten eine Verschnaufpause, bevor Lizz Wright mit ihrer Band die B\u00fchne betrat. Wrights unvergleichlich dunkle Altstimme setzte von Beginn an ein Ausrufezeichen und mit Songs wie Neil Youngs \u201eOld Man\u201c, \u201eFreedom\u201c oder \u201eNo More Will I Run\u201c gleichzeitig ein Statement f\u00fcr das Leben in all seinen Phasen, den unterschiedlichen Facetten der Liebe oder den Mut Entscheidungen zu treffen und Verantwortung zu \u00fcbernehmen. Ihre Mitstreiter an dem Abend waren Adam Levy & Marvin Sewell an den Gitarren, David Cook am Piano\/Keyboards, Ben Zwerin am Bass sowie Marlon Patton Schlagzeug. Musikalisch war der Abend gepr\u00e4gt von tiefem Chicago Blues, Gospel-, Jazz- und Popkl\u00e4ngen. Bei Klassikern wie Jon Cowherds \u201eSalt\u201c und Frank und Se\u00e1n O’Mearas \u201eGrace\u201c spielte Wright selbst Piano, ihre Performance alles in allem beeindruckend tiefenentspannt, ganz gro\u00dfes Kino.<\/p>\n

Die Ingolst\u00e4dter Jazztage waren auch dieses Jahr wieder unvergleichlich spannend und gleichzeitig erfolgreich. Veranstaltungen wie z.B. Jazz in den Kneipen war wieder au\u00dferordentlich gut besucht. Jazz an den Schulen, die Veranstaltungen f\u00fcr Kids oder die Jazz Session wurde ebenso gut angenommen. In zw\u00f6lf Tagen besuchten \u00fcber 7000 Jazzfans und Musikliebhaber die 28 Konzerte\/Veranstaltungen des Festivals. Die Ingolst\u00e4dter Jazztage sind l\u00e4ngst zu einem Publikumsmagneten geworden und begeistern auch ausw\u00e4rtige Besucher, die so gleichzeitig die Stadt Ingolstadt kennen und sch\u00e4tzen lernen. Mit Wolfgang Haffner als k\u00fcnstlerischem Leiter hat das Team nicht nur einen der bekanntesten Jazzmusiker gewinnen k\u00f6nnen, sondern gleichzeitig einen versierten Festivalveranstalter, der zwischen den T\u00f6nen daf\u00fcr sorgt, dass alles reibungslos l\u00e4uft. Immer dabei, ob Ansagen oder f\u00fcr das Wohlbefinden der Musiker sorgend, turnt Haffner zwischen des G\u00e4ngen oder auf der B\u00fchne und sorgt, mal im Hintergrund, mal vor dem Publikum daf\u00fcr, dass alles passt. Was will man mehr? Dass es weitergeht!<\/p>\n

Unter der Leitung von Michael Leonhardt wurde ein abwechslungsreiches, vielschichtiges Programm pr\u00e4sentiert, angefangen von Klassikern wie \u201eWatching The Detectives\u201c, \u201eAccidents Will Happen\u201c \u00fcber \u201eShut Him Down\u201c bis hin zu \u201eShipbuilding\u201c, jenem legend\u00e4ren Song bei dem Costello den Trompeter Chet Baker mit an Bord hatte. Stimmlich war Costello an dem Abend merklich angeschlagen, aber letztlich ging seine gesangliche Performance, bis auf kleine Momente, voll in Ordnung. Was die Arrangements seiner Songs betrifft, so hat Michael Leonhardt Unglaubliches vollbracht. Die WDR Big Band spielte sharp as a knive and light as a feather mit Verve und sichtlich Spa\u00df. Als integriertes Quartett fungierten zusammen mit der Big Band Pianist und Keyboarder Simon Oslender, Bruno M\u00fcller zus\u00e4tzlich an der Gitarre, der Bassist Thomas Stieger und Wolfgang Haffner am Schlagzeug – hat wunderbar funktioniert und man darf gespannt sein auf die geplante CD Produktion.
