Gegr\u00fcndet wurde das feine Jazzlabel 1982 von Michael Cuscuna und Charles Lourie. Anfang der 1980er-Jahre waren viele wichtige und richtungsweisende Jazzver\u00f6ffentlichungen vergriffen. Da kam Mosaic Records ins Spiel. In streng limitierter Auflage wurden so Perlen des Jazz wieder ver\u00f6ffentlicht. Neu gemastert, mit Alternative Takes sowie detaillierten Informationen und Fotos zu den Sessions. Bis heute unvergessen als Mosaic die verschollenen Charlie Parker Benedetti Sessions komplett auf 7 CDs \/ 10 LPs ver\u00f6ffentlichte. Nun hat das Label erneut einen Coup gelandet: auf 11 CDs liegen nun die Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz Sessions in einer grandiosen Box mit einem umfangreichen Booklet vor.<\/p>\n

V-Discs<\/h3>\n

Die sogenannten V-Discs (Abk\u00fcrzung f\u00fcr \u201eVictory Disc\u201c) waren ein ganz eigenes Kapitel in der Geschichte des Jazz, der Klassik und Unterhaltungsmusik. W\u00e4hrend des sogenannten „recording ban\u201c in den USA von August 1942 bis November 1944 ( siehe dazu: https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Recording_ban<\/a> ) sind dies die einzigen offiziell genehmigten Aufnahmen und Produktionen mit Instrumentalmusikern, die nur in einem ganz speziellen Rahmen hergestellt und ver\u00f6ffentlicht werden durften: n\u00e4mlich f\u00fcr die US-Armee in \u00dcbersee als \u201emoralische St\u00e4rkung\u201c der Truppen. Die 12-inch Schellack V-Discs wurden seinerzeit in Kartons mit je 10 Exemplaren zusammen mit hundert Grammophon Nadeln nach \u00dcbersee verschickt. Wer hierzu historisch weiter ins Thema eintauchen m\u00f6chte, dem sei an dieser Stelle die V-Disc Discografie von Richard S. Sears empfohlen.<\/p>\n

Eine wahre Goldmine<\/h3>\n

Zur\u00fcck zur aktuellen Ver\u00f6ffentlichung auf Mosaic Records: diese Box ist eine wahre Goldmine f\u00fcr bis dato so noch nie ver\u00f6ffentlichte Sch\u00e4tze von Small Groups und Piano aus den Jahren 1943-1949. So finden sich hier Solo-Aufnahmen von Fats Waller, Meade Lux Lewis, Art Tatum, der gro\u00dfartigen Hazel Scott oder z.B. ein Set von bisher unver\u00f6ffentlichten Solo-Aufnahmen von Joe Bushkin. Von den Anf\u00e4ngen mit Bunk Johnson und seiner Band \u00fcber Aufnahmen der Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Sidney Bechet & his New Orleans Feetwarmers bis hin zu Jam Sessions mit Jack Teagarden oder Eddie Condon\u2019s Jazz Band finden sich in der Sammlung sowohl die Anf\u00e4nge des Jazz bis hin zu Swing Legenden wie Gene Krupa, Stan Hesselgard oder Teddy Wilson. Ein weiteres Juwel ist eine Live Aufnahme von Louis Armstrong mit Jack Teagarden, Hot Lips Page, Bobby Hackett & Co vom 6. Dezember 1944.<\/p>\n

Es folgen einzigartige Aufnahmen von Wild Bild Davison, Woody Herman, Nat King Cole, Roy Eldridge, Red Norvo, Buddy Rich, Ella Fitzgerald oder dem Lennie Tristano Trio. Insgesamt sind in der Box 220 Titel versammelt, von denen 9 Aufnahmen bisher unver\u00f6ffentlicht sind. Das Team der Swan Studios hat beim Mastering der Aufnahmen mit den SpezialistInnen Andreas Meyer, Nancy Conforti und Shane Carroll echte Soundwunder produziert. Als Quelle dienten sowohl top erhaltene 78er Schellacks (die von Sammlern zur Verf\u00fcgung gestellt wurden), wie auch Glasmaster, soweit diese vorhanden waren. So kann man die Aufnahmen nun technisch in beispielloser Qualit\u00e4t, \u00fcbrigens inklusive Original Ansagen der Musiker an die GIs, genie\u00dfen. Das Booklet umfasst 40 Seiten mit historischen und nat\u00fcrlich allen relevanten discografischen Angaben. Beispielhaft recherchiert setzt Mosaic auch hierbei wieder Ma\u00dfst\u00e4be.<\/p>\n

Die Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz Sessions Box ist ein Meilenstein. Unabh\u00e4ngig von der historischen Tragweite der Aufnahmen ist die Musik bis heute einzigartig und pr\u00e4sentiert Grundpfeiler des Jazz.
