Aus der Erbmasse eines strukturell traditionellen und bereits seit zwei Jahrzehnten bestehenden Jazzfestivals in Salzburg hervorgegangen, hat sich eine Konzertreihe in ein urbanes Event verwandelt, das der Stadt f\u00fcnf Tage im Herbst ein junges, vielseitiges und immens agiles Antlitz verleiht. Zwar schw\u00e4rmen weiterhin Bus-Kohorten zumeist fern\u00f6stlicher Touristen \u00fcber die Gassen aus und versuchen shoppend und fotografierend ein Bild von europ\u00e4ischer Gegenwart zu erhaschen. Daneben aber sieht man andere Leute, freakige, szenige, auch ganz normal interessierte Musikfans, die mit dem Programm unter dem Arm von einem Venue zu n\u00e4chsten pilgern, um Konzerte in ungew\u00f6hnlichen Umgebungen oder auch ungew\u00f6hnliche K\u00fcnstler in bekanntem Ambiente zu erleben.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dabei gelingen dem Festival gleich mehrere Kunstst\u00fccke. Zum einen sind nur wenige Konzerte klassischer Jazz im traditionell swingboppenden Stilverst\u00e4ndnis. Wenn ein Schlagzeuger wie Pedro Melo Alves oder ein Geiger wie Th\u00e9o Ceccaldi auf die B\u00fchne kommen, dann muss man vielmehr mit Experimenten, freien Kl\u00e4ngen, mit Energieausbr\u00fcchen oder auch clusternder Texturarbeit rechnen. Elliot Galvins Klaviertrio etwa arbeitet durchaus komplexer als die Jazz-Charts-Kollegen. Rolf K\u00fchn ist zwar 90 Jahre alt, entlockt seiner Klarinette aber vehemente und nicht immer vers\u00f6hnliche Sounds. Die Welt der S\u00e4ngerin Somi ist eine Melange aus Harlem und afrikanischer Westk\u00fcste, nachdr\u00fccklich pathetisch mit der Tendenz zur Kammermusik. Stian Westerhus versteht seine Gitarre als Soundgenerator f\u00fcr Texturen, nicht als Dudelhobel f\u00fcr Rekord-S\u00fcchtige. Edward Perraud wiederum trommelt auf allem, was Sound verspricht, nicht nur im Konzert, sondern auch im Rahmenprogramm etwa bei einem Klangspaziergang durch die Stadt.<\/p>\n<h3>Mut zum Risiko<\/h3>\n<p>Auch das geh\u00f6rt zum Festival: der Mut, selbst nicht zu wissen, was k\u00fcnstlerisch passiert k\u00f6nnte. Das Format der Blind Dates zum Beispiel bringt Musiker spontan und unvorbereitet zusammen, eine Konfrontation der Kreativit\u00e4t, f\u00fcr die H\u00f6rer so spannend wie f\u00fcr die Beteiligten selbst, die sich schon mal bei einem tats\u00e4chlichen Blindkonzert wiederfinden, im Dunkeln, ohne das Gegen\u00fcber vorher gesehen zu haben. Und das sind nur ein paar Beispiele von Dutzenden von Konzerten, die innerhalb der f\u00fcnf Tage die Festspielstadt zur Festivalstadt machen und vom Mozarteum bis zu Galerien, L\u00e4den, Museen, Parkanlagen versuchen, Salzburg m\u00f6glichst umfassend mit der Welt der improvisierenden Musik in Kontakt zu bringen.<\/p>\n<h3>Grenzen des Wachstums<\/h3>\n<p>Sie verweisen aber auch auf die sich bereits andeutenden Grenzen des Wachstums. Denn <em>Jazz &amp; The City<\/em> wurde in diesem Jahr noch umfassender von einem gro\u00dfen Publikum angenommen, so dass es immer wieder zu Engp\u00e4ssen bei den Konzerten kam. Manch einer stand vor dem B\u00f6sendorfersaal mit s\u00e4uerlichem Gesicht, weil er trotz Wartezeit keinen kontingentierten Platz mehr bekommen hatte. Vor einigen Spielorten bildeten sich Menschentrauben, das Konzept des kostenlosen und im Salzburger Sinne inspirierenden Kunstgenusses ging mehr als auf. Da ist noch Probleml\u00f6sungsbedarf f\u00fcr die kommenden Jahre. Zwar schw\u00e4rmen weiterhin Bus-Kohorten zumeist fern\u00f6stlicher Touristen \u00fcber die Gassen aus und versuchen shoppend und fotografierend ein Bild von europ\u00e4ischer Gegenwart zu erhaschen. Daneben aber sieht man andere Leute, freakige, szenige, auch ganz normal interessierte Musikfans, die mit dem Programm unter dem Arm von einem Venue zu n\u00e4chsten pilgern, um Konzerte in ungew\u00f6hnlichen Umgebungen oder auch ungew\u00f6hnliche K\u00fcnstler in bekanntem Ambiente zu erleben. Dabei gelingen dem Festival gleich mehrere Kunstst\u00fccke. Zum einen sind nur wenige Konzerte klassischer Jazz im traditionell swingboppenden Stilverst\u00e4ndnis.
