Alarm! Ein Konzert mit viel Jazzgeschichte k\u00fcndigte die Moderatorin des dritten Abends im Haus der Berliner Festspiele an. Eingeladen waren zwei (drei) gr\u00f6\u00dfere Besetzungen. BigBand und BigEnsembles. Dabei blickte man in der Tat tief in die Anf\u00e4nge der Jazzgeschichte zur\u00fcck. Und in die Kochkunst.<\/p>\n<h2>Abgekocht, abgeschmeckt: Instantsuppe<\/h2>\n<p>Jazzmeia Horn betrat mit der <strong>WDR BigBand und ihrer Show \u201eA Social Call\u201c<\/strong> zuerst die B\u00fchne. Um genau zu sein, etwas sp\u00e4ter. Zun\u00e4chst durften sich Leiter Bob Mintzer und die WDR BigBand f\u00fcr ein St\u00fcck selbst pr\u00e4sentieren. Es ist leider eine andauernde traurige Geschichte beim Jazzfest, dass eine ARD-BigBand dabei sein muss. Selten kommt es dabei zu ganz eigenen Ereignissen. So eben leider auch hier. Jazzmeia Horn setzte sich sozusagen auf die Arrangements von Bob Mintzer drauf. Klar, kann Mintzer arrangieren, klar die BigBand das umsetzen, das ist deren Job. Solide, bisweilen wirklich pfiffige Arrangements dabei. Dar\u00fcber dann aber eben Jazzmeia Horn, die gleich mit den ersten Gesangs\u00e4u\u00dferungen das Publikum reizte und in den Bann schlug (ich gebe tats\u00e4chlich den G\u00e4nsehauteffekt zu, es war so). Jazzmeia Horn hat das auch drauf, das ist bewundernswert. Ihre Stimme ist gro\u00dfartig, keine Frage. Sie muss spulen, sie rackert, sie macht alles richtig. Aber das ist zu wenig! Wie sehr w\u00fcnschte man sie sich als einen aggressiven Partner, der auch mal ausb\u00fcxt, der die S\u00e4ngerin herausfordert, der sie \u00fcberrascht. Das w\u00e4re der n\u00f6tige Kick gewesen. Man m\u00f6chte den Schlagzeuger aus seiner Zelle souver\u00e4nen Exekutierens retten, auf die B\u00fchne rennen mit einer Bl\u00fcte aus Bl\u00e4ttern von Anarchie.<\/p>\n<p>Die bange Frage: W\u00e4re das \u00fcberhaupt gewollt gewesen? Best\u00fcnde da nicht die Gefahr, dem Star die Show zu stehlen? Ich f\u00fcrchte: Ja. So wie das bei einem Solo Karolina Strassmayer in der BigBand durchaus gelang: durchdacht, komplex, h\u00f6chstlebendig, der heimliche H\u00f6hepunkt des gesamten Auftritts. Abseits der Piste, das aber geht scheinbar nicht. Und das ist traurig, weil es so viel Potential unausgesch\u00f6pft l\u00e4sst. Gerne auch das Scheitern. So bleibt die Show.<\/p>\n<h2>Kochende Br\u00fchen \u2013 Wildes Werden<\/h2>\n<p>Anders dann der zweite Act. <strong>Jason Moran \u2013 The Harlem Hellfighters<\/strong> (USA\/Gro\u00dfbritannien) \u2013 James Reese Europe &amp; the Absence of Ruin, eingeleitet durch ein duftiges Vorspiel junger Berliner Musikerinnen, die an jene Jazzwurzeln erinnerten und den Moment einfingen, an dem sich eine Milit\u00e4rkapelle zum Tiger mausert. Drei St\u00fccke Blasmusik am \u00dcbergang zur wilden Musik. Das war elegant und duftig gemacht, Nikolaus Neuser hat die St\u00fccke einstudiert. Das will gekonnt sein und das k\u00f6nnen wohl nur nicht-durchprofessionalisierte Musikerinnen. Charmant, dann giftig, dann tiefes 19. Jahrhundert in den Triopassagen anklingen lassend, als wenn man Franz Schubert \u00fcber den gro\u00dfen Teich geschubst h\u00e4tte. Tolle Sache. Ob das authentisch sein kann oder nicht? Eine l\u00e4stige Frage, die niemand beantworten kann. Aber doch, ja, so k\u00f6nnte es auch gewesen sein. Mit dem Projektnamen \u201eJames Reese Europe &amp; the Absence of Ruin\u201d erinnerte er an einen schwarzen Musiker, der im ersten Weltkrieg als Freiwilliger der USA in Europa als Soldat eingesetzt wurde und Musik mit seinen dann Harlem Hellfighters genannten Jungs spielte. Moran will die Erinnerung daran in die Gegenwart zur\u00fcckholen. Der Auftritt lie\u00dfe sich jetzt kleinlich im Ablauf beschreiben, von Herzschl\u00e4gen, von Milit\u00e4r-Band-Kl\u00e4ngen der Brass-section, deren Spektrum von Trauermusiken bis hin zu durchgedrehten Variet\u00e9st\u00fccken reicht, darin dann mal Subbass-Schwingungen zu elektronischen Kl\u00e4ngen, markanten, knappen Piano-Soli. Es tauchen die Ghosts von Albert Ayler auf. Der Schlagzeuger r\u00fchrt unerm\u00fcdlich in der kochenden Ursuppe mit Spa\u00df, mit Freude, mit Depressionen \u2013 eine dreckige-w\u00fcrzige Musik, dann eine fast ziemlich gerade, pure: New Orleans durch den Fleischwolf der Postmoderne gedreht. Und gegen Ende des Auftritts dann die Bilder auf der Leinwand mit schwarzen Soldaten der US-Army, die Bild f\u00fcr Bild aus der Vergessenheit treten und einen vorwurfslos anschauen, obwohl sie dazu genug Grund gehabt haben m\u00f6gen d\u00fcrften. Am Ende versammeln sich die Musikerinnen um den offenen Fl\u00fcgel aus dessen Mitte es rot leuchtet, w\u00e4hrend auf der Leinwand jemand vor einem Grab kniet. Das war alles beeindruckend und ohne Anflug von Wehleidigkeit.<\/p>\n<p>Danach tritt man heraus ins Foyer in dem ein Piano\/SchlagzeugDuo aktualisierten Ragtime spielt. Zu m\u00fcde, es bis zum Ende zu h\u00f6ren. Aber eine wunderbare Angelegenheit. Und man stellt dann fest, ja, der Rundfunk h\u00f6rt die Sachen anders, hat seine Tonmeisterinnen, die mitunter ganz anders akzentuieren. Man erkennt teilweise die Sachen kaum wieder, die man tags zuvor noch im Konzertsaal h\u00f6ren konnte. Lob daf\u00fcr. Lob daf\u00fcr, dass der Rundfunk das bringt. BigBand und BigEnsembles. Dabei blickte man in der Tat tief in die Anf\u00e4nge der Jazzgeschichte zur\u00fcck. Und in die Kochkunst. Abgekocht, abgeschmeckt: Instantsuppe Jazzmeia Horn betrat mit der WDR BigBand und ihrer Show \u201eA Social Call\u201c zuerst die B\u00fchne. Um genau zu sein, etwas sp\u00e4ter. Zun\u00e4chst durften sich Leiter Bob Mintzer und die WDR BigBand f\u00fcr ein St\u00fcck selbst pr\u00e4sentieren. Es ist leider eine andauernde traurige Geschichte beim Jazzfest, dass eine ARD-BigBand dabei sein muss. Selten kommt es dabei zu ganz eigenen Ereignissen. So eben leider auch hier. Jazzmeia Horn setzte sich sozusagen auf die Arrangements von Bob Mintzer drauf. Klar, kann Mintzer arrangieren, klar die BigBand das umsetzen, das ist deren Job. Solide, bisweilen wirklich pfiffige Arrangements dabei. Dar\u00fcber dann aber eben Jazzmeia Horn, die gleich mit den ersten Gesangs\u00e4u\u00dferungen das Publikum reizte und in den Bann schlug (ich gebe tats\u00e4chlich den G\u00e4nsehauteffekt zu, es war so).
