Der Freitag stand dabei unter dem Motto \u201eFriday Blast\u201c. Voller Stoff also, Durchl\u00fcften! Man kann manches zum aktuellen Jazzfest sagen, ausgewogen ist es jedenfalls nicht. Und das ist gut so. Denn es beweist so n\u00f6tige Kompromisslosigkeit in der Sache \u201eMusik\u201c. Das Haus der Berliner Festspiele in der Schaperstra\u00dfe war rappelvoll. Dabei sind die programmierten Bands \u2013 mit Ausnahme des Art Ensemble of Chicago \u2013 eher Kennerinnen bekannt. Und wo man vermeintlich etwas vorweg kennen mochte, war die Aufstellung doch jeweils neu: Urauff\u00fchrung, Special Edition, Weltpremiere!<\/p>\n<h2>Improvisationsk\u00f6rper<\/h2>\n<p>Der Karton mit \u00dcberraschungen war also gut gef\u00fcllt. Und geblastet hat es auch. Wie gleich zu Beginn bei <strong>Irreversible Entanglements<\/strong> (USA). Trompete, Saxophone, Kontraba\u00df, Schlagzeug und Poetry. Etwa 50 Minuten pures hyperagiles Improvisationsgest\u00f6ber mit Klangspielphasen, die gleichwohl nicht weniger \u201eintensiv\u201c waren. Mein Sitznachbar verglich das mit einem Basketball-Team: Immer in Bewegung, immer F\u00e4den der Kombinatorik suchend. Allerdings ohne den Abschluss zu suchen. (Und gottlob vermied man den leicht hereinwabernden B\u00fchnennebel und zweifelhafte Videoeinspielungen auf der Leinwand hinter den Musikerinnen, wie sie noch gestern mehr oder minder unmotiviert auftauchten.) Ein bisschen droht dabei die Gefahr des zu perfekt Ungedeckten! Die Besetzung mit Cello, Kontraba\u00df, Schlagzeug und Trompete fand sich kompositorisch voll legitimiert. Anders als bei \u201eIrreversible Entanglements\u201c reihten sich freie Formen mitunter an rhythmisch groovende Passagen. Dunkelkammerarbeit in den beiden Streichern erzeugte irre Grundierungen unerh\u00f6rter Art. Das Ganze wirkte nachgerade wie ein Gang durch das Periodensystem der Elemente von M\u00f6glichkeiten der Improvisation. \u00dcbergang mal flie\u00dfend, mal im Bruch, aber einen immer wieder beim H\u00f6ren mitziehend. Das z\u00fcndete gewiss auch beim Publikum im Saal. So sieht ein musikalischer K\u00f6rper aus, dessen Funktionsf\u00e4higkeit sich in jedem Augenblick seiner Unsicherheit versichert. Nach 27 Jahren wieder in Berlin. Man k\u00f6nnte meinen, ein historischer Moment. Aber das Art Ensemble of Chicago ist ein anderes geworden. Die Besetzung erweitert (Streichertrio plus zwei Kontrab\u00e4sse, Querfl\u00f6te, Electronics, zwei Perkussionisten, Trompete und Saxophon). Eine Neuerfindung auf der Grundlage \u00e4lterer Konzepte. Die Sache ist zwiesp\u00e4ltig. Zu Beginn eine Art durchkomponierter Suite, Roscoe Mitchell leitet dirigierend die Handlungsreisenden. Nein, das ging zu Beginn einfach schief. Diese Art \u201eNeue Musik\u201c war leider wieder mies durchgeh\u00f6rt, stereotype Harmonik und Durcharbeitung. \u00dcbergang dann in ein lichtes Zwitschern aus den Electronics mit Theremin, ein duftiges Klingeln bei leichtem Schlagwerkeinsatz (man darf das mal so kulinarisch benennen). Es glich ein bisschen einer Art Messe zu der rezitierend sich f\u00fcr eine Phase Moor Mother hinzugesellte.<\/p>\n<p>Es entwickelt sich eine leicht vor sich hin k\u00f6chelnde magische Klangsubstanz in die hinein dann gef\u00fchlt 15 Minuten Roscoe Mitchell ein irrwitzig pfeilschnelles Solo am Sopransaxophon setzte. Der Ensemble-Reaktor arbeitet. Auch in der darauf folgenden Passage \u00fcber einem Ostinato mit Trompetensolo. Am Ende \u201eOdwalla\u201c \u2013 jenes ebenso so simple wie gro\u00dfe St\u00fcck \u00fcber eine absteigend in Wechselt\u00f6nen gespielte Tonleiter. Ein Zelebrationsst\u00fcck \u2013 k\u00f6nnte es sein und doch macht es das Manko des Auftritts deutlich: Geschichte kann auch eine B\u00fcrde sein, sie l\u00e4sst sich nicht einfach erneuern, sie l\u00e4sst sich modifizieren, transformieren. Der gro\u00dfe Rausch der universellen Musik, die H\u00f6rende und Musikerinnen gleicherma\u00dfen erfasst ist ein Gl\u00fccksfall, der sich nicht automatisch einstellen will \u2013 so ist das eben mit dem Gl\u00fcck. Wenn in der Ansprache der Fl\u00f6tistin die 50-j\u00e4hrige Geschichte rekapituliert wird, ist damit der Bogen gespannt. Aber zu lasch. Und wo man vermeintlich etwas vorweg kennen mochte, war die Aufstellung doch jeweils neu: Urauff\u00fchrung, Special Edition, Weltpremiere! Improvisationsk\u00f6rper Der Karton mit \u00dcberraschungen war also gut gef\u00fcllt. Und geblastet hat es auch. Wie gleich zu Beginn bei Irreversible Entanglements (USA). Trompete, Saxophone, Kontraba\u00df, Schlagzeug und Poetry. Etwa 50 Minuten pures hyperagiles Improvisationsgest\u00f6ber mit Klangspielphasen, die gleichwohl nicht weniger \u201eintensiv\u201c waren. Mein Sitznachbar verglich das mit einem Basketball-Team: Immer in Bewegung, immer F\u00e4den der Kombinatorik suchend. Allerdings ohne den Abschluss zu suchen.
