Die menschliche Hybris und Beschr\u00e4nktheit gegen\u00fcber der Gr\u00f6\u00dfe des Universum sollte \u201euns kleine dummen Menschen\u201c etwas bescheidener machen, singen die \u201eTiptons\u201c bei ihrem Auftritt im Leeren Beutel. Die vier Musikerinnen widmen den Song ganz explizit ihrem eigenen, \u201edem amerikanischen Pr\u00e4sidenten\u201c. Es ist nicht die einzige \u2013 musikalische \u2013 Frechheit, die das singende und blasende Saxophonquartett mit lustvollem Vergn\u00fcgen und hinrei\u00dfender Leidenschaft aus dem Hut eines zehn CDs umfassendes \u0152uvres zieht.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Neben engagierten Songs, in denen sie mit Witz und Scharfsinn Stellung beziehen, stecken darin Walzer und Reggaerhythmen. Aber auch \u00fcbersch\u00e4umende italienische Melodik und knackiges, vierstimmiges Jazzgebl\u00e4se, leichtf\u00fc\u00dfige Latinst\u00fccke, Soulfunk und handfester Blues beinhaltet ihre Musik. Vervollst\u00e4ndigt wird die Band durch den \u00f6sterreichischen Schlagzeuger Robert Kainer, der es l\u00e4chelnd aush\u00e4lt, wenn er als Quotenmann bezeichnet wird. Beim ersten Jazzclub-Konzert vor einem Vierteljahrhundert war noch ein anderer Drummer mit dabei. Damals nannten sich die Saxophonistinnen, die sich an ihr Regensburgdeb\u00fct gut erinnern konnten, noch \u201eThe Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet\u201c nach einer Musikerin, die in den 40er Jahren nur als Mann verkleidet in einem Orchester spielen konnte. So gesehen, ist es vom Jazzclub ein gelungener Coup gewesen die Band am Internationalen Frauentag einzuladen. Warum dann allerdings mit diesem Pfund nicht gezielt f\u00fcr das fabelhafte Konzert geworben worden ist, bleibt v\u00f6llig unverst\u00e4ndlich. Vermutlich h\u00e4tte es weit mehr frauenbewegte Zuh\u00f6rerinnen \u2013 und auch mehr M\u00e4nner \u2013 zum Tanzen und Mitsingen gebracht. Zwischen zwei- und vierstimmigem Spiel mit Kreuzrhythmik und sch\u00f6nen, teils schlichten Melodien, zwischen kr\u00e4ftig treibenden Grooves und motorisch repetierten Motiven entfalten sie gut gelaunt und k\u00fcnstlerisch aufrichtig ein stilistisches Spektrum, das sich gewaschen hat. Bei aller Neigung, sich nie zu ernst und wichtig zu nehmen, gl\u00e4nzen Bandgr\u00fcnderin Amy Denio (as), die expressive Sue Orfield (ts), Tina Richardson (bars) und die quirlige Jessica Lurie an drei verschiedenen Saxophonen auch solistisch in eindrucksvoller und bewegender Weise. Am ehesten sind die \u201eTiptons\u201c und ihr Drummer noch mit den dahin gegangenen \u201eNegerl\u00e4ndern\u201c vergleichbar, die auf \u00e4hnlicher Weise musikalische Ausdruckskraft mit Witz und leidenschaftlicher Freude am Vergn\u00fcgen zu verbinden wussten.
