Das Rundfunkstudio als Klanglabor f\u00fcr improvisierte Musik: das ist die zentrale Idee des SWR NEWJazz Meetings, das 1955 vom SWF-Jazzredakteur Joachim-Ernst Berendt gegr\u00fcndet wurde (damals hie\u00df es noch &#8222;Free Jazz Meeting Baden-Baden&#8220;). So verschieden die Sounds in den 51 Jahren seines Bestehens waren, das Ziel des SWR NEWJazz Meetings ist immer dasselbe geblieben: Musikerinnen und Musikern im Rahmen eines Rundfunkstudios die M\u00f6glichkeit zu geben, unter rein musikalischen Gesichtspunkten und unabh\u00e4ngig von den Zw\u00e4ngen des Business zu experimentieren.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">So konnte das SWR NEWJazz Meeting zu einem Sensor und Katalysator f\u00fcr sich anbahnende Jazzentwicklungen werden. Die Teilnehmerliste der vergangenen Jahrg\u00e4nge liest sich wie ein Who&#8217;s Who des Jazz: Don Cherry, Albert Mangelsdorff, Bobby McFerrin, Roscoe Mitchell, Charlie Mariano, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Carla Bley, Manfred Schoof, Lionel Loueke, Wolfgang Dauner, Renaud Garcia-Fons und viele andere waren beteiligt. Sie lieben die Herausforderung des musikalischen Dialogs, der Freig\u00e4nge erlaubt, ja fordert &#8211; und deshalb auch ein gro\u00dfes \u00dcberraschungspotenzial birgt: Brad Mehldau und Joshua Redman blicken auf eine lange gemeinsame Spielerfahrung zur\u00fcck, unterstreichen aber als Duopartner durchaus ihre Risikobereitschaft. Der Pianist und der Saxofonist verm\u00f6gen bei jedem ihrer Auftritte trotz festgelegten Programms neue improvisatorische Pfade zu verfolgen, die sie oftmals selbst verbl\u00fcffen. &#8222;Brad und ich bleiben eine zeitlang zusammen in einer sicheren Klangzone, wo wir uns beide wohlf\u00fchlen &#8211; dann aber sind wir frei, die Konversation ganz individuell zu gestalten, was den anderen manchmal irritieren mag. Die Hauptsache ist dabei, dass wir uns gegenseitig vertrauen&#8220;, sagt Joshua Redman. Oktober seinen 90. Geburtstag feiert, ist der stilbildende Altist des Cool Jazz. Als herausragender Musiker des Tristano-Kreises und Partner von Miles Davis bei den Aufnahmen zu &#8222;The Birth of the Cool&#8220; belegte er in den sp\u00e4ten 40er und fr\u00fchen 50ern an zwei Stellen eine Schl\u00fcsselstellung bei der Etablierung des Cool Jazz. Von den Innovationen Lester Youngs und Charlie Parkers ausgehend, fand Konitz mit seinem vibratolosen und Ton fr\u00fchzeitig zu einer originellen Tonsprache. Abgesehen von wenigen Big Band-Engagements (Claude Thornhill 47\/48 und Stan Kenton 52\/53) hat Konitz seine durchgeistigte, allen Klischees abholde Musik meist in Kleinbesetzungen verwirklicht und dabei die Improvisation fernab aller Klischees in den Vordergrund gestellt. Die Hornistin Elena Kakaliagou erzeugt im Trio Zinc &amp; Copper mikrotonale Schwebungen und singt im Duo mit einer Pianistin. Theo Nabicht lotet in Eigenkompositionen und in Formationen mit Schlagwerk s\u00e4mtliche Ton- und Ger\u00e4uschwerte seiner aus Holz bestehenden Kontrabassklarinette aus.
